Will Technolgy Replace People in the Real Estate Industry
We are seeing an explosion of technology in the real estate industry. There is an ever-widening gap between realtors and new technologies. Many realtors can’t seem to keep up with all of the new tech coming out. It appears in our industry the successful realtors are embracing tech. The “old school” are falling away, probably forever.
Technology – The Gartner Hype Cycle
On the contrary, in regards to the Gartner Hype Cycle, we are seeing big companies like Zillow begin to offer an “all in one” deal for home sellers. No need for realtors or title companies, with technology, they promise to be a “one-stop-shop”, that will deliver sellers a big paycheck at a low cost.
Will Realtors and other Real Estate Professionals become Obsolete?
This sounds good in theory, but can we really expect tech to replace humans in the real estate industry? Is the technology smart enough to differentiate our different circumstances and needs as individual home sellers and real estate consumers? I think these promises are lofty at best. Though we see Tech rapidly changing the face of the real estate industry, I still believe tech can never replace the characteristics, attributes, and benefits that humans bring to the table.
Do we really need constant technology innovation in the workplace?
Competition throughout every industry grows more fierce by the day. We as a society have become accustomed to wanting everything bigger, better, faster, and cheaper than ever before. Business is simply answering the call promising cutting edge tech will deliver and make good on their promises. People and businesses are not willing to take the time to vet this new technology in fear of losing dollars and worse yet, becoming obsolete. I would not expect to see any slowdown in regards to tech innovation in the workplace. In fact, we are probably only just beginning.
