Harvey Update Oct 2017. As Port Aransas picks up the literal pieces from hurricane Harvey roughly a month after a hurricane hit the town, multiple buildings remain inhabitable, people need tetanus shots, and a football-field’s worth of debris is removed daily, the city’s mayor said Monday.
Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane, hit the state’s coastal towns in August, leaving much of the Southeast corner of Texas hurting and without power and leaving many without homes to go back to. So far, 136,000 cubic yards of debris has been removed from the city, and 6,000 cubic yards are being removed daily, he said. The amount of debris removed each day looks as if a yard of trash was piled on top of an entire football field.
Water, gas, sewer and electricity services are “up and running” again, Bujan said, and most street lights have been restored.
At least 648 people have been treated for injuries and another 463 have received tetanus shots.
