Donna Tx History
Thomas J. Hooks moved his family towards the area due to the farming potential in 1903. Railroad entrepreneur Uriah Lott named the city after Hooks’ daughter. So, when D Hooks Fletcher divorced in 1908, she received land from her father. As a result, Donna turned it into a prosperous produce and dairy operation. Donna, honored by local history, her namesake facility – D Hooks Fletcher Museum. Therefore, artifacts range from the town’s first telephone, a bar supposedly utilized in the 1914 Blue Goose Saloon and household appliances, including an ice box, clothes wringer wash tub, and butter churn. Finally, boldly displayed may be the Bible that D Hooks Fletcher grasped in one hand, as the other hand held a pistol, consequently, throughout the tense 1910s when Mexican revolutionaries raided over the nearby Rio Grande.
